CMRS Summer Fellows

Scholars holding a PhD (or the foreign equivalent) may apply for an affiliation with the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies as CMRS Summer Fellows in order to pursue research at UCLA in any aspect of Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

    CMRS Summer Fellows receive:
  • $500 as travel reimbursement or stipend;
  • temporary membership in the Center;
  • campus privileges, such as access to the UCLA Libraries and Special Collections access.

The length of time spent in Los Angeles is at the discretion of the award recipient, but theaward should be used between mid-June and the end of September. Please note that CMRS cannot provide housing accomodations for Summer Fellows.

Scholars who wish to access research collections at the Getty Center, the Getty Research Institute, or the Huntington Library in San Marino must contact those facilities in advance to apply for reader privileges. Affiliates of the UCLA CMRS are not automatically granted access to those collections.

The application deadline for visits during Summer 2010 is February 15, 2010.

Application Procedure

    To apply for a Summer Fellowship, please send:
  • a curriculum vitae (CV);
  • a 200-word description of the proposed summer project;
  • a letter of recommendation.

Because the award is intended especially for those who need resources offered only by UCLA or local research facilities, the description should indicate how the project would benefit from a visit to Los Angeles.

Send the application materials to:
