| KOREAN Korean 1A. Basic Writing for Korean Heritage Speakers Lecture, two hours; outside study, four hours. Designed for Korean Heritage speakers who can speak, but cannot read or write in Korean. Not open to students who already know how to read or write in Korean. Specail emphasis: alphabet, writing system, sound change rules, and polite forms. P/NP or letter grading. (2 units) Korean 2A. Elementary Korean for Korean Heritage speakers. Lecture, two hours; discussion, three hours; outside study, seven hours. Prerequisite: Korean 1A or equivalent. Designed for students who are from Korean speaking family background and have some limited knowledge in Korean. Emphasis on formal aspects of standard Korean. (eg. basic grammar, reading, daily conversation, polite forms, and basic writing). P/NP or letter grading. Korean 3A. Elementary Korean for Korean Heritage speakers. Lecture, two hours; discussion, three hours; outside study, seven hours. Enforced requisite: course 2A. Continuation of course 2A. P/NP or letter grading. Korean 4A-5A-6A. Intermediate Writing for Korean Heritage speakers. Lecture, two hours; discussion, three hours; outside study, four hours. Prerequisite: Korean 3A or equivalent. Not open to students who have attended elementary school in Korea more than one year. Designed for intermediate-level Korean heritage learners. Emphasis on four skills (eg. spelling, grammar, readings and conversation in Modern Korean). (4 units each) Back |
