Language and Culture Courses for Heritage Speakers of Russian at UCLA In the Russian Program, heritage speakers are referred to as native and near-native speakers The goal of the Russian courses for native and near-native speakers is to meet the need of learners who are interested in developing skills in their heritage language, to bring their skills to a point where they can function with confidence in an academic and professional environment. Russian 100A, B. Literacy in Russian. For students who speak Russian but have difficulty reading and writing. Russian for Native and Near-Native Speakers (Russian 103 A,B,C) Improvement of oral and written language skills for students with some formal education in Russian-language schools or after taking appropriate language classes in the USA. Russian 103A. Russian for Native and Near-Native Speakers. (4 units) Russian National Identity. Readings in literature, philosophy, criticism; film. Russian 103B. Russian for Native and Near-Native speakers. (4 units) Literature and Film: Film Adaptations of Russian Literature. Readings and screenings. Russian 103C. Russian for Native and Near-Native Speakers. (4 units) Special topics in Russian culture and language. Possible topics include: Non-Russian Writers of Russia, Russian Women Writers of the 20th Century, Russian Humor. Course may be repeated for credit with change of topics and/or instructor. Russian 106. Russian for Advanced, Near-Native and Native Speakers. (4 units) Analysis of literary texts. Back |
