The pars rustica

The pars rustica is the area of a Roman villa that was used for such practical purposes as storage of tools, grain and other products, shedding of animals, quarters for slaves, etc. In contrast to the pars rustica is the pars urbana wherethe owner lived while visiting his estate. The pars urbana could be quite luxurious and large, as is the case with Horace's villa.
