Angiolo PasquiAngiolo Pasqui (1857-1916) excavated Horace's Villa from 1911-1916 for the Ministry of Antiquities and Fine Arts, which he joined in 1891. He rose to the position of Vice Inspector in 1895 and to Inspector in 1897. From the late 1890s until 1908 his energies were directed toward the new Etruscan Museum at the Villa Giulia in Rome. In 1908 he was named Director of the Office of Excavations of Rome and Ancient Latium and of the Province of L'Aquila, a post he held until his death in 1916. Other projects in which Pasqui was involved include: the Ara Pacis, the Villa at Boscoreale, and the Temple of Juno Sospita at Lanuvium. At Licenza, Pasqui started the long process of state expropriation of the land parcels on which the excavated portion of Horace's Villa sits. He also planned the local museum.
