36 imperative expressions in eight Chadic languages
This list shows imperative constructions in the following eight Chadic languages: Hausa, Karekare, Ngamo (Yaya dialect), Ngamo (Gudi dialect), Bole, Duwai, Ngizim, and Bade (Western dialect). It is the transcript for a video originally developed for the video-based Hausa language course, Hausar Baka, which shows actors performing commands issued in Hausa. Speakers of the other seven languages were recorded giving the same commands in their respective languages, keyed to the actions in the video. The video, with all eight languages, can play all the commands in a single language or permit quick comparison of the same command in different languages. The video, which is a QuickTime movie, is 37.5 MB, making it impractical to post it on this website. It is available on CD. For information, contact Russell Schuh at schuh@humnet.ucla.edu.
