CO- The 42nd Annual UCLA Art History Graduate Student Symposium
Hosted by the UCLA Department of Art History, Co- : Collaboration and Collectivity in Art will bring together emerging scholars to share their research on the role of community in art. Papers will consider collaborative effort and its relation to artistic creation, including those forms traditionally viewed as antithetical, even hostile, to expression. Questions to be addressed include: how does a desire for or rejection of collectivity manifest itself? What social formations have fostered or stifled the production of art? In an attempt to define community in the broadest possible sense, case studies examining periods and regions ranging from ancient Rome to Meiji Era Japan will be featured.
The 42nd Annual UCLA Art History Graduate Student Symposium is funded by the Campus Programs Committee of the Program Activities Board, Council for Arts & Architecture, Graduate Student Association, UCLA Department of Art History and UCLA Friends of Art History.
