"The Other Side of the Wall"

presented by George Baker

Tom Burr, Blackout Bar, 2003 in the installation "Gone, Gone," American Fine
Arts, Co., New York.

The keynote speaker this year will be Professor George Baker. Professor Baker is an Assistant Professor of Art History at UCLA, a long-standing critic for Artforum magazine, and an editor of OCTOBER Magazine and OCTOBER Books. His research and teaching focuses on the art practices of the European avant-garde in the early twentieth-century, as well as the history and theory of contemporary art, film, and photography. His recent essays include studies of Robert Smithson's films, Man Ray's photography, and the current status of the photographic medium. Professor Baker provides a reexamination of the Dada movement in his forthcoming book, The Artwork Caught by the Tail (MIT Press), and a collection of his essays on contemporary art is planned for the future.
