Los Angeles, which
houses some of the most important collections of art in the
country, is home to several hundred museums. LA's museums
provide excellent opportunities for art history students to
pursue research, study, internships, and employment. Art History
faculty at UCLA have a long tradition of formal and informal
involvement with art institutions in the broader Southern
California region: they have contributed to world-class exhibitions,
served as curatorial consultants, placed students in internships,
and helped to build and re-shape permanent collections. These
networks of scholarly activity present an invaluable set of
opportunities and resources for art history students at UCLA
and provide a hands-on training in the critical study and
appreciation of cultural objects.
