The art history department at UCLA, which has expanded significantly in size and scope in recent years, offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Ph.D. degrees, with courses surveying Western and non-Western art from earliest human history to the present. Students learn to treat artistic works and trends from a critical and historical point of view, analytically rather than subjectively.
