Although Nicolas Sanson came from a Scottish
family, he was born and raised in France, and educated by the Jesuits in
Amiens. For his remarkable ability in cartography, Sanson was awarded the
title of King’s Geographer. He gave geography lessons to Louis XIII
and the future Louis XIV.
