Professor Monella received an M.A. (Laurea di vecchio ordinamento) in Classics from the University of Palermo in 2001, with a thesis on the myth of Procne and Philomela from Homer to Ovid, later on published in Italy by Pàtron Editore, Bologna. He received a Ph.D. in Greco-Roman Philology and Culture from the same University in 2006, with a dissertation on the symbologies of space in the Roman elegists.
His fields of interest include classical Latin poetry, Greek and Roman Mythology, and the application of the digital technologies to Classical Philology.
