FREAKS! Exploring the Unnatural in the Ancient World

Transportation

There are several ways of getting from LAX to UCLA, including Taxi, Shared Vans, and Bus.

Taxis are the most expensive way to UCLA, although one of the most convenient. Taxi passengers should look for a taxi underneath the yellow "Taxi" signs outside of baggage claim in whatever terminal they arrive at. A rough estimate of taxi price (sans tip) is $30, although traffic conditions can definitely affect this.

Shared Ride Vans pick up up to seven passengers heading in the same direction and allow them to share some of the expense. They can take somewhat longer, as some riders will be dropped off before others. There are two shuttle companies which serve LAX: Primetime Shuttle, and Super Shuttle. Reservations can be made online in advance, or by going to the Orange "Shared Vans" sign outside of baggage claim in whatever terminal the passenger arrives at. A rough estimate of shared van price (sans tip) is $15-$20.

Buses are also available from the airport, with a price that can't be beat, even if they are slightly slower than vans and taxis. Passengers should take the "C" shuttle bus from the "LAX shuttle and Airline connections" signs outside the baggage claim to lot C. There, they can board the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus (#3 or #3 rapid towards UCLA transit center) or Culver City Green Bus #6 (toward UCLA). The fare for either of these buses is $0.75 one way and take about 1 hour from lot C to UCLA.

Parking

Guest Parking is available on UCLA campus for those driving. The rate is $8.00 per day. There are 11 kiosks across campus; upon arrival, stop at a kiosk to purchase your parking pass for the day and then proceed to one of the garages. Lots 2, 3, and 5 are the closest parking structures to Royce Hall. Alternatively, for shorter term parking, the two lots in the southwest corner of campus, lots 32 and 36 have pay machines at the rate of $2/hr or flat-rate of 6$ on weekends or after 4:30 on weekdays. There is a shuttle which runs from these lots to the northwest of campus. Be aware that street parking in the vicinity of UCLA is tough to find and often quite strictly enforced, with severe penalties. For more information see the UCLA Parking website.
