M.A. PROGRAM

ADMISSION

The Department does not admit students whose final objective is a Master's degree. The program that leads to an M.A. in Classics is considered the first step toward the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Classics. The M.A. in Greek or Latin can be awarded to students whose academic goals shift in the course of graduate study.

Requirements for admission to the M.A. program are a UCLA B.A. degree (or its equivalent) with a major in Greek and Latin or the demonstration of a strong background in both ancient languages; a G.P.A. of at least 3.0 in the major; a statement of purpose; three letters of recommendation, normally from previous instructors in the Classics; and the Graduate Record Examination.

For application details, please see Applying to the Graduate Program.
