POST-BACCALAUREATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM IN CLASSICS

The Postbaccalaureate Program is designed to prepare students with a BA in Classics or another field for admission to graduate programs in Classics and related disciplines, through an intensive year of study in Greek and Latin.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Full-time study in each quarter of up to three advanced undergraduate or graduate courses in Greek and Latin from the Department's extensive offerings. A minimum of two courses in ancient languages plus the Post-Baccalaureatee Seminar or other courses in Classics and related fields are required. Courses carry transferable credit and, depending upon the admitting institution, may apply to graduate degree requirements.

The Post-Baccalaureate Research Seminar covers research techniques and resources in Classics. Taught by a regular member of the faculty and open only to students in the Post-Baccalaureate program, the research seminar gives the student the opportunity to engage in an individual or collaborative research project culminating in preparing a writing sample (12-15 pages) suitable for graduate school applications.

The Post-Baccalaureate Program is supervised by an advisor who is a regular UCLA graduate faculty member.

Certificate and transcript are issued upon successful completion of program. Minimum requirement for completion is one year of Greek and/or Latin beyond the program's entrance requirements. Students entering with one year of Attic Greek and/or one year of Latin should expect to complete the program in three quarters (and must complete it in two years).

Full-time status as a UCLA Extension student with extraordinary provision of campus student services including UCLA library privileges, access to UCLA's extensive student recreational facilities and the Student Psychological Services (on a pay-for-service basis).

Federal financial aid (subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans) is available. To request a loan application packet, please call the UCLA Extension Financial Aid Office, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-12 noon or 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at 310-825-4246.

Optional health insurance is available through the American College Student Association and underwritten by Mid-West National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee.

Three quarters of full-time study, beginning in Fall Quarter.
