HCN 7/17/40 Broadway Limited Roach 1941 Marjorie Woodworth Grover Jones is preparing the screenplay of Broadway, Limited for Hal Roach, with a September start planned. The picture, to be directed by Richard Wallace, will feature Victor McLaglen, Victor Mature; Carole Landis, and Marjorie Woodworth.
NYT 9/29/40 HR assigned John Hubbard and CL to the romantic leads in Bway Limited with Victor McLaglen ... deals with modern railroad operation. BL is scheduled for production following Roach's "Topper," and Richard Wallace has been engaged to direct it from a scenario by Rian James.
10/6/40 A train loaded with ... Producer HR, Victor McLaglen, Zasu Pitts, Patsy Kelly and CL, will spend the next two weeks shuttling between NY and Chicago over the Pennsylvania road.  Mr McL and the Misses Pitts and Kelly are due in NY this morning from Hwd, and Miss L will join the party on one of its trips to Chicago.

JS 1/9/41 Blood and Sand Fox 1941 Rita Hayworth (Dona Sol) Flat refusal to dye her blonde hair black and affect a hairdo in the manner of Hedy Lamarr today cost Carole Landis one of Hollywood's most coveted roles-that of the seductive charmer in Blood and Sand, opposite Tyrone Power. / For weeks, 20th Century-Fox has been endeavoring to borrow the glamorous Hedy from MGM, but Miss Lamarr has been at odds with her home studio over salary and the number of pictures assigned her. This little difficulty put 20th Century-Fox on the spot for Tyrone's co-starring partner. Director Rouben Mamoulian got the bright idea of giving Carole Landis the role-if she would dye her hair. But Carole calmly chucked the plan with the line: "I made my reputation as a blonde. If I change now, people will dub me a copy-cat. That, I don't want." / So far, Blood and Sand is filming without its brunette vampire.

The film will tell the story of a man who is wrongfully convicted of a crime, and who escapes from prison, only to be turned over to the authorities again by a girl who double-crosses him...

Washington is now almost as popular as New York as a big city film locale. Twentieth Century-Fox has two Washington photoplays in the making. The one that figured in the news today is called Lady In a Quandary. It is to be a comedy with a capital locale, the studio said, in announcing that CL would have the lead.
HH 5/19/42  Through Thick and Thin Fox 1943 (Something to Shout About) Cobina Wright Jr. Picture that started as "Winter Garden" then became The Gang's All Here, underwent a permanent change. & New title is now "Through Thick and Thin," which is also the title of one of the songs Cole Porter has written for it. Janet Blair gets the lead & Jack Oakie, Don Ameche, CL and William Gaxton will also be in this picture.
