Technology for German & Italian Language Classroom Instruction

Faculty Advisor: Elissa Tognozzi
Teaching Assistant: Beppe Cavatorta

Course Objectives

The class will function primarily as a workshop, with in-class activities designed to familiarize participants with the applications of technology to foreign language instruction. The out-of-class project (individual or group) provide an opportunity to explore technological tools for teaching, develop skills necessary to work with these applications, and create technological resources for a selected target group. To help participants focus on possible projects, there will be in-class demonstrations and discussions of their pedagogical rationale. As well, participants will have a chance to present their projects for discussion and critique while they are still in progress, with a view toward improving the final product. There are no required texts or exams, but participants may wish to refer to the recommended readings list, and consult with the Faculty Advisor or TA before finalizing their project ideas. Due to the workshop format, participants are expected to do the following:

Attend and actively participate in class--including giving feedback to classmates on their projects.

Produce an electronic teaching portfolio and a final course project.

Present the course projects to peers for feedback, and incorporate this feedback into the final version of the project.
