This page explains how UCLA humanities instructors and students access course-related audio and video content.
Browser Software Plugins for Audio Listening: Most audio content that is posted on Ecampus uses either Quicktime movie files (just sound part) or MP3 sound files. MP3 sound files can be opened with Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or Quicktime Movie Player, and at least one of these should be installed on any computer (usually Windows Media Player on PC, Quicktime Movie Player on Mac). If you need a newer version of the player, these plug-ins can be downloaded from WebCT's plug-in download page. The Quicktime Movie Player is avilable from Apple (Quicktime PC Movie Player , Quicktime Mac Movie Player ).
Browser Software Plug-ins for Video Viewing: Most video content that is posted on Ecampus uses the Quicktime movie file format and requires the Quicktime viewer to be installed on the local computer (Quicktime PC Viewer, Quicktime Mac Viewer). Other plug-ins for video files, such as Windows Media Player or RealPlayer, can be downloaded from the WebCT's plug-in download page.
Click here for more information on Browsers and Plug-ins.
Video Furnace Viewing: Viideos made available by OID's Video Furnace program should be viewed over the campus network (in computer labs or dormitories) They also may be viewed at home if the computer is configured for VPN (Virtual Private Network) and the user has sufficient bandwidth through his high-speed internet provider. (Note: Viewing access from home is not officially supported by the Video Furnace program, so technical set-up is the responsibility of the user.) To enable VPN on a home computer, consult the VPN instructions from Bruin Online.
