Dreamweaver is a powerful web-authoring application. You can create complex webpages with or without knowing HTML, and organize, manage, and upload your website files. This section gives a very brief overview of basic Dreamweaver functions. For greater detail:
- Consult the built-in Dreamweaver help and tutorials. Open Dreamweaver and go to Help > Getting Started and Tutorials or Help > Using Dreamweaver.
- Check out the tutorials recommended by UCLA's Teaching Enhancement Center, a unit of the Office of Instructional Development.
- Visit the HTML and Web Design section of our site, to learn more about coding and web design principles.
This section covers the following topics:
- Setting up a Dreamweaver Site
- Using the Files Panel to Manage Files
- Global Find and Replace
- The Check-Out and Check-In System
- Using the Files Panel to Upload and Download Files
- Creating a Dreamweaver Template
- Creating a webpage based on a Template
- Making changes to a Template and updating webpages based on that Template
The instructions apply specifically to Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, but the steps in earlier and later versions of Dreamweaver should be similar. This entire section can be downloaded as a printable PDF.
