There are many pedagogical tools and services available via the world wide web. Some enhance teaching by making learning materials and exercises available to students in new ways, while others make it easier to communicate with students and manage their records. Some of the exciting tools you can use to enhance learning in and out of the classroom include:
Ecampus Course Websites: All undergraduate courses in the Humanities division have a class website hosted on Ecampus. Graduate course sites are created upon request. You can use your class site to make materials available to students electronically, hold virtual discussions, create interactive web assignments, and much more. The Ecampus Frequently Asked Questions explain how to get started using your Ecampus course website and where to go for assistance.
Library Tools and Resources for Instructors : The UCLA Library provides course reserve services, copyright and intellectual property guidelines as well as an online newsletter for faculty.
MyUCLA (Email the Class, Roster, Gradebook): This academic web portal offers a secure, personalized gateway to a rich variety of online information and services across the UCLA campus. For instructors, it offers tools that allow you to Email the class, view and print class Rosters, use an electronic Gradebook, and access TurnItIn plagiarism prevention services. Beginning in fall 2005, instructors will be required to submit final grades to the Registrar using the MyUCLA Gradebook.
Turnitin (MyUCLA) : This plagiarism prevention service is available to all instructors at UCLA. It is available through My.UCLA, which is overseen by the College. Our page introduces instructors to the service, explaining how to use it and how to make it part of an overall strategy to promote academic integrity.
Language Instructional Technology: This website provides information about technology that is particularly useful to the Foreign Language Community at UCLA. You'll find specialized information about fonts and display and an introduction to many tools, including SCOLA international broadcasts and WIMBA communication and assessment tools, that enhance Foreign Language Learning & Teaching.
Web Publishing Tools: This web page provides an overview of various kinds of web publishing tools, such as blogs, wikis, podcasting, image tools and Apple's new iWeb.
Online Quiz Tools: This page gives a brief introduction to a few online quiz tools that are available to UCLA humanities instructors.
Moodle Course Management System: The Humanities Division is moving to Moodle, an open-source learning management system (LMS) that will facilitate course and collaborative work for faculty, students and staff. Click here to read more about Moodle at UCLA.
