Capturing a clip from a VHS, DVD, VCD, or mini-DV tape

 

Setting up

  1. Turn on the deck or camcorder to play the video.
  2. Open iMovie. Choose File > New Project. Give the project a name and click Create.
    * Click the inverted triangle to expand the window [Fig1].

  1. Click the mode switch [Fig. 2] to set to Camera Mode. The message “Camera Connected” will appear on the screen.
  2. Control your camera using the playback controls on the iMovie screen. (NOTE: This function does not work when you are importing the video from a VHS deck via an analog-to-digital converter. Click Play on the screen while you control the VHS deck so that you can view the video on the computer screen.)
  3. Cue up the tape a few second before the point where you want to start importing.
  4. Click Play and immediately click Import.
  5. Click Import again to stop importing. Your captured clip will appear in the Clips Pane [Fig. 3].

    If you try to capture a lengthy section of video, iMovie may automatically divide the clip into multiple sections.

If you need to trim the imported clip, go to Editing video. Otherwise, go to Saving video.
