Kale Likover's Be A King Be A Queen (May 15th-19th 2006), was an inter- active, performative, and educational installation that transformed a UCLA gallery space into a salon for clients to receive free gender make-overs, and for all to absorb film and literature with transgender, queer, intersex, differently- abled, feminist, drag-based, sex-worker, and/or campy content. Whether clients desired to travel from one side of the gender spectrum to the other, to occupy a gender-bending gender-blending space, or simply perform their personal gender to an extreme, they were able to experience a campy re-imaging of themselves or a serious sophisticated transformation into the realms of "the other."
Kale Likover is a recent graduate of UCLA's undergraduate art program. He is currently living and working in Los Angeles.
Photographers: Patterson Beckwith and Mark Dadlani.
Makeover Artists: Kale Likover, Karen Andrea, Maggie Wells, Catherine Kim, Alexis Berman, Aaron Valenzuela and Heidi.
