Jeff sheng

from Thesis Album (2002)

Jeff Sheng's artwork deals with identity and the photographic image.    This piece seen here is part of a larger series, finished in 2002, titled "Thesis Album," which consists of 60 personal "snapshot" pictures taken during a 3-year relationship of his partner at the time.    The body of work interrogates the idea of a singular identity, by re-representing one person obsessively in a multitude of scenarios, emotions, and environments -- and placing these images in the context of a 4"x6" personal album, meant to paradoxically convey both fiction and "real" intimacy at the same time.

Jeff is currently working on a series photographing and interviewing athletes on high school and collegiate sports teams who also openly self identity with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community.    For more information about the artist and these projects, see www.jeffsheng.com.
