TRAVEL GRANTS FOR UCLA GRADUATE STUDENTS

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Program is pleased to be able to offer assistance with travel expenses to UCLA graduate students presenting LGBT-related work at conferences or pursuing LGBT research related activities. The purpose of this program is to support LGBT scholarship at UCLA and to make it possible for graduate students to make their research known to audiences beyond UCLA.

Please follow the instructions below in submitting an application. Applications will be reviewed by a faculty committee once a year for merit, relevance to LGBT Studies, and the student's academic achievement and progress toward degree. Successful awards are generally no more than $350, depending on the number of applications awarded during the year. Preference is given to first time applicants. Funds may be used to defray costs associated with travel and conference registration, but NOT for meal expenses and accommodations.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be graduate students who are registered at UCLA during the quarter in which the travel occurs. If travel occurs during the summer, students must be registered the following fall.

To be eligible for a conference travel award
a. Applicant must be a listed author of the work and the person delivering the paper or presenting the piece.
b. The work must be related to LGBT Studies or research

To be eligible for a research travel award
a. Applicant must be a doctoral student who has advanced to candidacy.
b. A major focus of the research needs to be on a topic falling within the purview of LGBT studies or relating to the welfare of LGBT populations.
