Course Requirements (M.A. Level)

Graduate Advising
Department of Linguistics
UCLA

Nine courses are required for the masters degree:  currently

         200A, 200B, 200C, 201, 206, and one of { 213A, 213B, 213C, 185A/209A, 217}

and

The required courses do not all have to be taken in the first year, but as a rule of thumb, try to take at least seven required courses in your first year, and if you intend to take Field Methods in your second year, try to take eight required courses in your first year.  The syntax and phonology sequences should be taken in the first year. It is strongly recommended, but not required, that students take Linguistics 210A and 210B during the second year of study.
