UCLA provides substantial support for its graduate students through fellowships, traineeships, and teaching and research assistantships.

The Foreign Language and Area Studies Program (FLAS) assists individuals who are undergoing advanced training in modern foreign languages and related area studies. Applicants may apply for an academic year fellowship which provides a stipend of approx. $10,000, registration fees, and nonresident tuition; and/or a summer fellowship that provides a $2,400 stipend plus fees. Applications for these fellowships are usually due by February 1st to the Student Affairs Officer in the Linguistics department .
There are many Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships that you might want to consider applying for. These include:

The Linguistics Department offers its graduate students a minor financial incentive to apply for fellowships. The incentive consists of small department fellowship increases for people who apply and don't get the fellowship they apply for.
