Proseminars and Seminars

These terms have a local meaning in our department.

Proseminar:  an advanced graduate course taught by a faculty member, covering a special topic chosen for that particular quarter.  Proseminars are numbered in the 250's in the course catalog.  For current topics in proseminars, click here.

Seminar:   weekly meeting of one of the department's research groups.  Usually, a research talk is given by a faculty member, graduate student, or visitor; sometimes there is a group discussion of a recent paper.  The seminars are numbered in the 260's in the course catalog.  For the seminars currently in operation, visit the schedule page.
