Writing the Body in
French Literature

PAROLES GELÉES:  UCLA French Studies

The 1998 edition of Paroles Gelées seeks a variety of papers exploring and analyzing images of the body in all periods of French and Francophone literature and culture.

                Possible themes might include:

The Body Erotic: Sexuality and Gender
                Medical Narratives of the Body
                Bodies and Technology
                Bodies in Science Fiction
                The Mind-Body Split
Body Aesthetics: Art, Cinema and Literature

Papers must be received by APRIL 10, 1998, to be considered for the 1998 issue.

Over the past 16 years, Paroles Gelées has provided graduate students and faculty from around the world a forum in which to publish their scholarly articles. Past issues have included a wide range of articles on French and Francophone literatures and cultures from the Middle Ages to Post-Colonial Studies, as well as interviews with scholars such as René Girard, Jean Baudrillard and Michel Delon.

Papers submitted for consideration should be limited to approximately 25 typewritten pages and may be written either in French or English. Authors should follow the MLA Style Handbook in preparing their articles and provide three (3) copies of their work with name and affiliation indicated on the cover sheet only. Those authors whose articles are selected for publication will later be asked for a copy on a 3.5" diskette using Wordperfect 5.1 or MS Word 6.0.
