The Graduate Program

The principal goal of the graduate program is to produce philosophers of high quality, thinkers informed by the great historical traditions of Western philosophers who can apply the methods of philosophical analysis to a broad range of current philosophical problems. Since most of its graduate students hope to teach at the college or university level, the department is also committed to training clear, able, and stimulating teachers.

Admissions: Prof. Sean Kelsey (chair), Prof. Sheldon Smith, and Dr. Anna Laven (staff)

Students with academic interests in philosophy and law may wish to consider a specialization in law. UCLA also offers a joint JD/PhD program. Interested applicants and current students should consult with the director of the program.
