Colloquia, Lectures, and Workshops

Colloquium Series
The Philosophy Department sponsors a series of colloquium talks. These talks are generally aimed at an audience with some general (previous or concurrent) training in the kinds of philosophy taught in our UCLA classes. These are open to the public.

Workshops
The Philosophy of Language Workshop generally meets on Wednesday afternoons.
The Philosophy of Mathematics Workshop generally meets on Monday afternoons.
The Ethics Writing Seminar meets each quarter; students working in the areas of moral and political philosophy present and discuss current work.
The Occasional History Group meets sporadically on Tuesday afternoons, often with a visiting scholar.
The Epistemology Reading Group meets on Thursday afternoons (Spring 2006).
The Southern California Reading Group in Philosophy of Physics meets roughly once a month.
Occasional workshops and Reading Groups are scheduled as interests and opportunities arise.

Lectures and Conferences
The Ruthfest in honor of Ruth Marcus took place in Fall 2001.
The Davidfest in honor of David Kaplan's 70th Birthday took place in Fall 2003.
The Parsonsfest in honor of Terry Parson's 65th Birthday took place in Fall 2005.
The Moody Conference in Medieval Philosophy is held annually.
The Quinn Conference is held bi- or triannually.
The Reichenbach Lecture, is given annually.
The History and Philosophy of Science Conference is held annually.
The Rosenkranz Lecture is given annually or biannually.
The USC/UCLA Joint Graduate Student Conference is held annually.

Some Other Programs:
The Legal Theory Workshop meets regularly, usually on Thursdays at 4:15
The Logic Colloquium meets on Fridays in the Department of Mathematics
The Linguistics Colloquium meets on Fridays at 11.
The Cognitive Science Program holds Monday lunch seminars and Evening colloquia.

Events at UCLA: The UCLA campus sponsors frequent lectures, many of which have philosophical themes.
