Spanish and Portuguese seeks an Assistant Professor of Spanish
Golden Age/Early Modern literatures and cultures. Tenure-track. To
start July 1, 2007. Salary commensurate with preparation and
experience. Requirements: Ph.D. in hand, native or near-native
fluency in Spanish and English. Ability to work with other key
languages of Spain in the period also desirable. Ability to teach a
monographic undergraduate course on the Quijote and a survey
of early Peninsular and Colonial literature. Evidence of excellence

in Luso-Brazilian literatures and cultures. Although we anticipate
making an appointment at the assistant professor level, recently
tenured scholars with outstanding records of research and teaching
are also encouraged to apply. To begin July 1, 2007. Salary

candidates with demonstrated research and teaching interest in both
Continental Portuguese and Brazilian literatures and cultures.
Interest in Lusophone African highly desirable. Requirements: Ph.D.

Coordinator - Spanish and Portuguese Lower Division Language Program
To Begin July 1, 2007
The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at
UCLA invites application for Coordinator of the Spanish and
Portuguese lower division language program, at the rank of Lecturer.
Responsibilities include teaching (including the graduate course in
second-language acquisition), supervising TAs, and administering the
program. Demonstrated superior language teaching skills at the
college level, strong background in second-language acquisition and
language teaching methodology are preferred. Expertise in
computer-aided instruction and other technologies for language
teaching is also required. The candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree
in a field related to language teaching/second-language acquisition
and linguistics. The candidate should have experience of
administrative work in supervising TAs in a language program. Native
or near-native fluency in Spanish is required; knowledge of
Portuguese is desirable. The initial appointment is for one year,
with the possibility of reappointment and an eventual continuing

4). Lecturer in Quechua and Spanish
Lecturer in Quechua and
Spanish. Full-time appointment consists of roughly 2/3 time
teaching Quechua (elementary and advanced), and 1/3 time teaching
diverse levels of Spanish. The actual combination of courses
may vary from quarter to quarter based on enrollment patterns.
Ability to teach Bolivian Quechua preferred. This appointment is
funded jointly by the UCLA Latin American Center and the Department
of Spanish and Portuguese. We seek candidates with demonstrated
preparation and experience in language teaching as well as a strong
commitment to excellence in language instruction. Please send
