1. How do I add the glossary tool to my class web site?
Go to the Homepage and follow these steps:
- Make sure that the Designer Options tab is selected.

- Under Actions > Options: Links, click Add page or tool.
- Click on Glossary under Course Content Tools.
- Part 1: in the Enter a title for this item text box, enter the title as you want it to appear.

- Part 2: decide where you want this item to appear on your course site and check the appropriate box. You can add it to the Course Menu or to an Organizer Page, or to both. When you check "Organizer Page," you can choose which Organizer Page the glossary will appear on from the pull down menu. The default selection is shown. You can also control how the item will look by selecting/deselecting the options for showing the item title and showing the item icon. You can change the appearance of the link later if you don't like how it turns out.

- Finally, click Add to add the glossary to your site.

6. Why would I want a glossary on my course web site?
You can use the Glossary as a mini-dictionary for technical or foreign words and expressions that your students are likely to come across and with which they might not be familiar (chiaroscuro, fin de siècle, Schadenfreude). Having a glossary specific to a course web site is helpful in cases where the same term has different meanings across different disciplines, or whose precise meaning is under discussion. Of course, it is also convenient for students not to have to look up each term they do not know in their own or outside dictionaries. It is also possible to include images in the Glossary tool, to further enhance its usefulness. Please contact your ITC if you would like to know how to do this.
