1. How do I log in to MyUCLA?

The MyUCLA system (maintained by College Information Services) is separate from the Ecampus course site system (maintained by the Center for Digital Humanities). To login to MyUCLA you can use a Bruin Online ID and password. Many instructors already have a BOL account. To create or ask about your BOL ID, please visit www.bol.ucla.edu or call (310) 825-7452.

Your Ecampus username and password will not work on MyUCLA.

Follow these steps to log in to MyUCLA:

  1. Go to http://my.ucla.edu and click the LOGIN license plate. You can also access the MyUCLA login page from your Ecampus course site. From the course Homepage, click the View tab (above the Homepage) and then click the E-mail the Class, Roster & Gradebook icon. The MyUCLA login page appears.
  2. Choose your ID Type from the pulldown menu (most use Bruin Online).
  3. Enter your Login ID (for the ID Type selected).
  4. Enter your Password (for the ID Type selected).
  5. Click Sign-In. Your MyUCLA homepage should appear.

For further assistance with MyUCLA, please email myucla@college.ucla.edu or phone (310) 206-4525.

2. How can I email my class?

You can email your entire class without having to gather and keep track of all your students' email addresses. The MyUCLA system provides them for you.

  1. Click on Courses in the top left.
  2. Find the course section you wish to email and click on Email.
  3. A window will open where you can compose and send your message.

For further assistance with the MyUCLA email the class feature, please contact myucla@college.ucla.edu.

4. How can I use an electronic gradebook?

The MyUCLA Gradebook allows you to setup assignments and assign percentages or values to them. You or your TAs input the students' grades. At the end of the term, the Gradebook will calculate final grades for you, and even give you the option to submit them electronically to the registrar--no more paper!

After you've logged in to MyUCLA (see Question 1 above), follow these steps to access your electronic gradebook:

  1. Click on Courses in the top left.
  2. Find the course section whose grades you wish to view and click on Gradebook.
  3. Agree to the Privacy Statement. Check the box and click "I AGREE".
  4. Choose whether you want to use Gradebook (full online grading options and submit final grades) or Gradebook Express (enter and submit final grades only). Both gradebook types allow you to share grading responsibilities with "Gradebook Assistants" (often TAs).
  5. A window will open where you can configure and use the Gradebook.

Instructors of record may obtain gradebook help by logging in to MyUCLA, clicking on the Gradebook link for the class they are teaching, and clicking on gradebook help (the link is just above the "Current Grading Schema" bar).

If you are not currently the instructor of record for a class but want to learn more about the tool, there is a sample Gradebook that illustrates the basic structure:

  1. Go to http://my.ucla.edu, and, without logging on, click on Sample Faculty Page (the link is under the license plate).
  2. Choose a dummy class in the right-hand column and click the corresponding Gradebook link beneath it.
  3. Click on gradebook help (the link is just above the "Current Grading Schema" bar).

If you are a TA, you may not have access to the Gradebook for the class. Ask the primary instructor if you think you need access.

Further Gradebook references:

If you need further assistance with the MyUCLA gradebook, please email gradebook@college.ucla.edu or call (310) 206-4525.

5. Why are these tools on MyUCLA instead of Ecampus?

Ecampus websites are designed to house course content and tools for student-teacher interaction. The MyUCLA system is better suited to record-keeping and registrar functions. Ecampus/WebCT does offer versions of the MyUCLA tools, but they must be configured before use and do not automatically connect themselves to the Registrar database. We strongly recommend that instructors use email-the-class, roster, and electronic gradebook on MyUCLA. The MyUCLA tools require minimal setup on the instructor's part. Only MyUCLA connects to the most up-to-date student record information and allows you to submit grades electronically at the end of the term.
