The latest versions of web browsers may be optained from corporate sites, and they are usually free of charge but require some form of registration in the download process. A list of web browsers compatible with Ecampus/WebCT and recommended by CDH can be found on the WebCT browser information page, which links to the corporate sites. UCLA faculty, students and staff may also download web browsers from the Bruin Online software page, which are also compatible with WebCT.
Security Settings: For using both Ecampus/WebCT and Humanities Webmail, you must have a browser that supports SSL (secure socket layers) for secure transmission of data. Any recent browser should support SSL, but if you have an older browser and need to check it, use the Intuit Browser Security Test.
Ecampus: If you already have a browser installed but seem to be having problems using Ecampus, please refer to the appropriate Ecampus Help page to troubleshoot your problem: Instructor Ecampus Help or Student Ecampus Help
Pop-up Blocking: Pop-up blocking is a common setting that can interfere with using Ecampus or other resources like ArtStor. To use Ecampus and Artstor, pop-up blocking must be disabled, at least partially. For instructioins on how to disable pop-up blocking, please refer to the WebCT browser tune-up page (and follow the instructions on disabling pop-up blocking) or to Arstor's online help on disabling pop-up blocking software.
Software Plug-ins: If you are unable to open PDFs, audio, video or some other type of file, you may need to install a software plug-in (free software mini-program for viewing purposes) for that file type. If you already have the software on your computer that reads that file type, you may only need to help your browser find the software. Common plug-ins can be found on our Ecampus plug-in page, the Bruin-Online (BOL) software download pages or on the WebCT's plug-in download page.
If you are an instructor or student using a departmental computer and cannot resolve a problem with a web browser, please call the CDH helpdesk (206-1414) or contact your departmental DTA.
