Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines -

Please follow Fair-Use copyright guidelines when using images on your ecampus website.

GETTING STARTED

GETTING STARTED: UCLA LIBRARY GUIDES

GETTING STARTED: SEARCH ENGINES AND INTERNET IMAGE SITES

  • Advanced Google Image Search -http://images.google.com Google image search will find items on publicly accessible websites
For high quality images, set image size to large, file type to JPG, color to full color
You might first try “.edu” in domain to restrict search to educational institute or “.org” (for non-profit sites, museums)
  • Creative Commons - http://creativecommons.org/ - this non-profit organization provides alternative forms of copyright licensing for authors, artists and educators that allow greater royalty-free sharing material. It is a good source for images, audio, video, and other educational material.
  • Flickr Creative Commons - http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/ - using the Creative Commons model, educators may search for relevant images and use them in accordance with the sharing guidelines.
  • Wikimedia Commons - http://commons.wikimedia.org/ - makes available a variety of media, including images. Images are cross-referenced with relevant Wikipedia articles, so one can start by finding an article and seeing which images are included.
  • Microsoft Office Free Clip Art and Media Online - extensive database of clip art and images, searchably by keyword.
http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx?lc=en-us (Note: unfortunately, Microsoft has been making more of these images in the windows media file formats, so file-format conversion may be necessary.)
