Character Entities: Character entities are special codes used to create the special characters and diacritics that might otherwise appear oddly because of operating system differences. These special tags are in the form of an ampersand, an abbreviated description of the special character, and a semicolon, that you insert in your text so that browsers display the correct characters.
See this chart of ISO LATIN-1 Character Entities for a list of common character entities. The W3 Consortium provides a complete reference list of HTML entitites.
Unicode: Unicode is a new font standard that incorporates a universal character set into a single font system. For more information, you can read about Unicode resources or the latest Unicode Standard from the Unicode Consortium.
Foreign Languages Fonts: If you need help with foreign language fonts or characters, consult with the UCLA Center for World Languages International Language Support web page.
