This website was created by the Instructional Technology Consultants at the UCLA Center for Digital Humanities. Our goal is to provide a central starting place where Humanities instructors can learn about the various technological tools at their disposal, including how to use them and where to find assistance and further training.

 

It's no secret that technology has become a powerful force in our society, and there are numerous ways that we can use this exciting and rapidly changing medium to fulfill the University's mission to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service.

 

The pages in this site cover the following kinds of resources:

 

CDH Support This section describes the different kinds of support services offered by the Center for Digital Humanities (CDH). Humanities instructors can find out where to go and who to contact regarding their technology needs.
Copyright and CDH Policy on Posting Materials to Ecampus Course Sites This section provides an overview on copyright as it relates to posting materials to your ecampus website. It also provides information on the use of of digital media in educational enviornment and useful links related to copyright.
Campus Resources UCLA has many offices and programs that support teaching and technology. This section describes some of the facilities and tools that are available campus-wide, beyond CDH, and links to their websites.
Online Tools There are many pedagogical tools and services available via the world wide web. Some enhance teaching by making learning materials and exercises available to students in new ways, while others make it easier to communicate with students and manage their records. This section describes some of the online tools you can use to enhance learning in and out of the classroom.
HTML and Web Design More and more instructors find themselves creating webpages as they seek to make materials available to students over the web. This section will teach you the basics of web-authoring, including how to write HTML code, prepare images and files, design for style and accessibility, and find free web design software.
Images Learn how to find visual resources for use in presentations and course web sites, how to edit and prepare the images, how to manage your image collection, and how best to display them to students.
Audio and Video Many instructors digitize media for use in the classroom or course websites. This section explains how best to prepare your materials for digitizing and how to use some of the basic media processing and delivery tools.
Foreign Language Resources This section introduces the Foreign Language Technology Coordinator (FLITC), provides specialized information about fonts and display, and introduces tools that are especially useful for foreign language instructors.
Software Basics This section introduces many of the software applications commonly used for teaching and research. There are instructions that explain how to get started using the software on your own.
